Robin reached out to Nico to expand his gravel patio into an area where the grass struggled to thrive.

The challenge was to make the new extension blend seamlessly with the existing patio. To achieve this, we used reclaimed railway sleepers and matched the gravel perfectly to the original, ensuring the result looked as though it had always been part of the design.

We began by digging solid foundations for the sleepers, ensuring the area was perfectly level.

Next, we laid a landscape fabric to prevent weeds, followed by preparing the sub-base, which we compacted thoroughly using a “Wacker” plate.

After that, we carefully spread the new gravel, making sure it was evenly leveled all around. Precision was key—we had to use just the right amount of gravel: too little, and the sub-base would show; too much, and it would become difficult to walk on without sinking.
